With 0 picks next year, Ottawa felt the need to get someone at the draft, and has agreed to send D man Tom Preissing and minor league D Man Jim Vandemeer to the NY Islanders, in exchange for NYI 2nd round pick in 2011.
Preissing, upset about hearing of Staal's imminent departure, asked privately to be traded. Vandemeer, wanting a bigger role, was also sent to help bolster the Isles blueline.
